Who here has ever heard of Washta? Bonus points if you know where it is more bonus points if you have been there and even more bonus points if you know what its claim to fame is.

1. Washta is near Quimby in NW Iowa |
|
When I was forced to live in Iowa, the town's Watermelon days were what made it famous among the local rubes.
My really really horrible 5th grade teacher was from Washta. She was a mean mean person.
NW Iowa is a scary place. I used up all my previous bonus points getting the hell out of there.

2. Yeah, I've driven through Washta a couple times |
|
It's a nice scenic drive. Kinda have to shut off the city brain otherwise I just get all tense trying to pass tractors and 85 year old drivers. Don't know the claim to fame though.
I read a statistic somewhere that IA has the most small towns of all of the states. I'm from one, my parents are from even smaller ones. My grandfather was the mayor of one. etc. etc.

4. Ahhh...River Valley. The River Rats. |
|
You could say I've been through there before...
Washta has a couple claims to fame. I think it has some record for coldest windchill or something. And it's also been called the meth capital of the world on national television. Also, they hold school in a large barn and several smaller shacks. No lie.
