NATURALLY IOWA, HY-VEE PROVIDING MILK IN CORN-BASED BOTTLES
(Clarinda) -- Now that corn can be made into fuel, what's next? How about corn being made into milk bottles. Officials at Naturally Iowa are hoping to sell milk contained in half-gallon corn-based plastic bottles at Hy-Vee stores in the near future. Bill Horner is managing director of Naturally Iowa--the Clarinda-based manufacturer of organically-produced milk. Horner tells KMA News the project has been in the works for quite some time. Horner says the bottles are made from a corn resin produced at a Cargill plant in Blair, Nebraska. The bottles are then made at Naturally Iowa's Clarinda plant, where the milk is bottled. Horner says the new bottles will be a boon for corn farmers. Not only is the milk in the corn-based bottles longer lasting, Horner says it takes like milk used to taste years ago. Sample bottles have been sent to managers of 195 Hy-Vee stores in seven states. Horner hopes the milk in the new bottles will be sold in Hy-Vee stores in the near future.
