BOE candidates miss filing deadline
Klutzy Creos fail to challenge moderate Republicans, in two districts, because they tried to file late: http://ljworld.com/section/stateregional/story/173327.

>TOPEKA — The teaching of evolution has a better chance of surviving
>Kansas politics because conservative Republicans missed last week's
>deadline by seconds.
>So-called moderate Republicans on the State Board of Education, who
>support the teaching of evolution, said Thursday they had expected
>conservative challengers in the Aug. 3 GOP primary, but were surprised
>when none filed.

Whatever the reason, incompetence, or having someone file late to save face because they couldn't come up with viable candidates, it certainly shows real weakness. It could be mistiming -- in 2002, two Creos filed at the very last minute and then ran stealth campaigns to unseat moderate Republicans in the primaries. Whatever the reason, the KS Republican Assembly and its tame Creos should be held up to ridicule.

2. On the other hand,
every one of the moderate Republicans in the State House and Senate from Johnson County had a conservative (right-wing) candidate file, so most of them are having primaries to deal with, while the Democratic challengers (of which there are quite a few) only have to worry about November 2.

SheilaT who is running in the 16th House District.
