1. What about Olathe Ford
I'm new to this topic, but I've been annoyed by seeing Fox advertised on CNN, sponsored by Olathe Ford.

That's right, CNN has ads for Fox News, sponsored by Olathe Ford. I assume it's only on Everest, not Time-Warner, which owns CNN.

4. There are also ads on both XM and Sirius,
on the liberal and Air America streams, for right wing radio shows like Sean Hannity.

Does that mean I should stop listening to liberal satellite radio? :)

3. They don't change the commercials depending on your
cable company. CNN is CNN, regardless of what is feeding it into your house.

5. Huh?
The cable companies run local ads. Surely the whole world doesn't hear that horrid Gaines Furniture Outlet ad every morning that runs on Everest. You're saying the local ads on Time Warner are the same local ads as run on Everest? It's plausible, but I figured it'd be logical if those varied by cable provider.

6. Maybe so
I have Time Warner. It sure seems like the commercials on my CNN are the same as on my friend's Dish Network and on my neighbor's Everest. I have also noticed that Time Warner runs Everest and Dish Network ads so I would imagine those ads are paid to CNN and not to my cable provider.

I also notice that I see commercials for other cable networks on competing channels. TNT runs ads on CNN and CNN runs ads on other networks as well.

There is obviously a number of local ads that only run locally. The reason I responded is I think it is futile to avoid watching a certain channel because of the ads they run or to avoid buying a certain product because of who buys its ads. I don't watch Fox News because I don't like Fox News. I also don't plan on buying a Chevrolet but not because of the channel where a local dealer advertises. Some people make purchasing decisions for different reasons I guess.
