Area Kansans steadfast in support of president

Area Kansans steadfast in support of president

By Mary Clarkin
The Hutchinson News

Job approval ratings for President George W. Bush slipped to 37 percent in a CBS News poll earlier this month, but a check with some Kansans in the region who contributed to past Bush campaigns found no erosion of confidence.

"There's such hatred for the man," Winnie Laughlin, Mount Hope, said of the criticism. She said she's learned not to believe what she reads in the newspaper or hears from television pundits. Laughlin called Bush a "man of character" and said her opinion of him has not changed.

"I'm just as proud of him as I was the first day I supported him," said Cecil Worden, Galva. The next presidential election is more than three years away. :yoiks: "I hope we can find somebody who can continue his type of leadership," Worden said.

Richard Hanson, Liberal, said Bush was "right on track." As for Libby's indictment, Hanson regarded that as "strictly political." If Libby hadn't done anything wrong, Hanson asked, why could he be accused of misleading the grand jury? "The Democrats are just continually manipulating the news media," Hanson said.

1. You can find
groups of people like that in every state. Last year pre election I was in the NE and had never in my life seen so many Bush/Cheney signs. So really, as sickening as this is it does not really mean all that much.

Have you seen this? http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2005/50StatePOTUS0905SortedbyState.htm

2. Yeah, I know.
It's why I think *'s #'s are about as low as they can go. There's an unshakeable core of support, but also these are people who obviously distrust/dislike the media and even if they disapproved they wouldn't say so to a reporter (+ they don't want to be on record as a "Bush Basher"!).

No doubt there's some who disapprove who would still answer "support" because they tire of hearing the low polls.

Thanks for the link Muse, I haven't seen that survey site before.

It heartening that there are several states that are "worse" than KS, but I have to say I'm surprised at the Nebraska #'s. :(

3. I hate articles like this that make us look like a monolithic block
of wingnuts. I happen to know quite a few Kansans who don't support Bush, even though some of the diehard Repubs will never change.

8. Not only brainwashed
but refuse to admit there may be another side of the equation. My fundie family tells me I'm being too hard on *Co and should try to see the other (repuke) side of things, but when asked to look fairly at the dem (intelligent) side, they refuse and get pissed off and tell me to stop talking or just leave. My dad's the worst. And my mom only follows along with him because she's scared to think for herself. During the elections, she said she had to vote for * because Kerry was pro choice and she could never support a man in favor of abortions. I asked her why she thought that, and she said because he's a dem. I asked her if she realized that Kerry did not agree that abortion is good or right, and that he thought it was wrong. She said she didn't know that. I told her, yeah, but he doesn't think it's his responsibility to tell a complete stranger what she CAN or CAN'T do seeing as how he's never met her (otherwise she wouldn't be a stranger). She said, and I quote, "Well, Bush is a Christian. He gets my vote."

Damn ignorants!

7. "If Libby hadn't done anything wrong, why could he be accused ..."
Because he lied, asshole.
