Is Kansas City A major city? Go Royals!!!

Good evening fellow people from Kansas, my question is this: "Is Kansas city A major city in Kansas? it seens no one talks about anything that is going on in the city and not to mention no major poltician(Roberts or Brownback) have there district offices there just Topeka and Whichita. So is it a big city in the State of Kansas.

Oh and one last thing...GO ROYALS who thinks they'll have a good team, they could if they just get there pitching together.

Usually when people discuss KC, its KC, MO.

We do, however, regularly hold meetups in KC.

Kansas City is in Missouri, not Kansas.

There is a Kansas City, Kansas, and I get into some pretty heated arguments with fellow Kansans about to what extent people out there (meaning not in the parts of Kansas and Missouri that are near the two Kansas Cities) understand the difference. I maintain that the vast majority of them don't. I had no idea there was a Kansas City, Kansas (otherwise known as KCK) before I moved here.

And they are in two different states, which can be quite different from each other.

However, the second largest city in Kansas, Overland Park, is in the KCMO metropolitan area, but you've probably never heard of it.

is Kansas City, MISSOURI. It is the Kansas City of the song also.

There is also a Kansas City, Kansas but it is much smaller. Like Sheila said, Overland Park, KS - a suburb of KC - is the second largest city in KS. It is larger than KC, KS.

The entire metropolitan area is a lot bigger than most people expect. 5 counties and about a million and a half people.

The fact that it's a different state hardly matters, right? After all, they're right next to each other and lots of people live in one and work in the other.

Look, around here people tend to pay a lot of attention to the state line. Missouri schools are crappy. Missouri roads are badly maintained. I do not need to see the signs indicating I've crossed the state line in the winter -- which roads or which side of the street is plowed after a snowstorm is all I need.

Plus, there's been a big battle going on for some years now about whether taxpayers on the Kansas side of the line should help pay for the Chiefs' and Royals' stadiums. Personally, I'm of the mindset that if professional teams are such an asset and such a money-maker, then the teams can afford to pay for the stadiums, or at the very least, the fans can pay for them in their ticket prices.

I knew about KCK before I moved here because we made a trip to St. Joseph in 1979 or so. I think on that trip we also went to KC and OKC. I am not sure what we were looking for, but I remember we kept getting stuck on the interstate and having to cross the river into Kansas. At least two, maybe 3 times we involuntarily went to the Kansas side.

OP was already the third largest city in the state. Much of the population growth in the entire metro area has been centered in Johnson County for a very long time now. Johnson County is the economic engine that drives the state of Kansas. People come here from as far away as Wichita on a regular basis to shop, particularly at Oak Park Mall.

When I ran for the Kansas state house last year, I felt that practically everyone in Kansas knew where the district is, because its anchored on the north by Oak Park Mall, and on the south by Johnson County Community College, one of the finest community colleges in the nation.

they are a farm club. IMO, they won't get much better until major league baseball changes its structure and allows more equity, especially with salaries. Every time the Royals get a good player (like Johnny Damon) he leaves and makes a lot more money with a wealthier team.

I'm 18 years old and i finally figured out that the kansas city royals and chiefs don't actually in kansas but missouri.

And as for the royals i feel bad for them cause there basically in the same boat as our pirates. What I terrible is that I read the scores from the other teams in the paper at work and there hasn't been a game i read where the starting pitcher lasts for more than 5 innings and gives up less that 4 or 5 runs.

one thing that the royals have that the pirates dosen't have...a cool looking water fountain in the out field. I'll be sure to tell that to the people on the missouri forum.

Most eastern Kansans and western Missourians are Royals and Chiefs fans. Western Kansans are more likely to be Broncos fans. My dad grew up in western Kansas and his relatives out there are huge Broncos fans. Eastern Missourians are usually Cardinals fans; same with western and southern Illinois. It's more of a regional fan base, not just by state. And you are half right, there are no major sports teams in Kansas. But there are minor league teams. Kansas City, Kansas has the TBones, a minor league baseball team. And there are the Wichita Royals and the Omaha (Nebraska) Royals, both farm clubs.

NCAA sports are also really big here. The University of Kansas (The Jayhawks) is in Lawrence, only 40 miles from KC.

And like Comer said, we have a very active DU meetup group here in KC. Most of us read BOTH the Kansas and Missouri boards here on DU.
