“We do not cut and run” Republican candidate for Moore's seat

West Point graduate Chuck Ahner of Overland Park has become the first Republican to announce his candidacy for Congress in Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District.

He would face four-term Democratic incumbent Dennis Moore.

Ahner is a senior vice president of Midland Loan Services. He was twice a losing candidate for the Blue Valley School Board.

He formally announced his congressional candidacy earlier this month but was not available for comment Monday.

Ahner cited the threat of terrorism as a chief concern. “We do not cut and run,” he said in a statement.

at least he was when he went by Maynard Ahner. This would put him more in the fundie camp.

Three candidates for Blue Valley School Board have indicated they would support the teaching of creationism and intelligent design in public schools. Those candidates are Dan French, Maynard Ahner, and Charley Morasch.

Dan French said during the primary, "he would not be opposed to having some discussion of the Intelligent Design theory." (Kansas City Star: "Candidates differ on novel policy and science" by Jill Sederstrom, Feb. 23.)

Maynard Ahner, who also signed the book banners petition, said he would support teaching intelligent design if the the state school board decides to include it. (Kansas City Star: "Views differ on novels, science" by Jill Sederstrom, March 19.)

Here's what I dug up:

Second Tier: Even as many first tier candidates announce that they will not challenge Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D-KS) in 2006, a host of second tier candidates is emerging. Former Overland Park City Councilmember Kris Kobach (R-KS), who was his party's congressional nominee in Kansas Third district last year has commissioned a poll to test his strength. State Senator Jim Barnett (R-KS) is also considering a run, according to Kansas Republican Party Chair Derrick Sontag.

5. You do know

that this is being done and has been done for quite some time?

Remote hookups to pacemakers, general physicals over video phone? Some of it is really good but some of it is really bad. You can't be expecting those doctors to drive all the way out to boonie town can you? They used to have nurses do it. I think the nurses got tired of doing all the work and making a tiny salary while the doc read their notes and made a yacht payment (one of the many reasons I did not feel bad quitting the profession).

In case you didn't know, Steve Kraske reported that Overland Park state Senator Dennis Wilson is considering running for the 3rd district seat.

The only announced candidate for the 3rd district is Maynard (Chuck) Ahner. Ahner has not held elective office. His only political experience is losing two Blue Valley School board races and losing a 2004 bid for precinct committeeman.

Any thoughts on Wilson or Ahner?? http://firedennismoore.blogspot.com/2005/06/in-case-you-didnt-hear.html

In the comments below this blog they wondered whether their preferred choice Wilson had graduated from high school. It looks they went for Ahner instead because, frankly, they didn't have any other choice.
