Early voting in Johnson County, KS.
I was running some voter registrations forms around 3:30pm yesterday (Monday, Oct 18) to the Johnson County election board office on Kansas City Road in Olathe, and early voting and last day registration was brisk to say the least. The parking lot was jammed full and I understand it was worse an hour later when a friend of mine also delivered forms there.

Among other things, this means campaigning the last two weeks is very different when so many voters vote early.

1. I was there last Thursday,
I got my ballot by mail, filled it out & took it there personally. The place was slammed. I did notice quite a few Kerry/Edwards stickers in the parking lot!

2. I went to vote today
at the office on Lamar and they had no ballots for my precinct. They said it was a 'shipping problem'.

Do you think I shoud be concerned?

I am going to go back in the next day or so and try to vote again.

3. I wouldn't be all that concerned,
not this far before November 2. You've got almost two weeks to get voted. You could send in the request for the advance ballot. Or, if you're willing to make the journey, go to the Johnson County election board on Kansas City drive in Olathe. They have the touchscreen machines set up there, although you can also request a paper ballot there.

If you get an advance one, be aware the postage to mail it back is 60 cents. I've been told the Post Office will forward ones without sufficient postage and not hold them back.

I haven't voted yet, but I will soon.

I'm going door to door on behalf of a State House candidate, and I'm already getting people telling me they've already voted.

4. Do you think
a paper ballot is better than using the electronic voting machine?

I have already decided not to trust the mail. I am voting in person.

5. I plan to use a paper ballot.
The one I applied for hasn't arrived yet, so I'll contact the election board on Monday.

6. Hi, you Olathe-ans
We lived in Olathe for a short time in the early 80's..I loved that little town.. Our development was very Stepfordian, but I was a stay-at-home with 2 1/2 kids..oldest was 5..

Very sweet little place..I wish I still lived there:)

7. I was just there
Was it me or are there a lot of Kerry signs around. I just expected all bush. Of the 10 people we visited there were 2 strong Kerry 2 strong bush and the rest convinced me they were undecided. I came armed with charts and tax graphs etc. I was amazed that some of them didn't know you had to sign a loyalty oath to get into a bush rally. That was just one of the more obvious things I thought everyone knew. No one knew about PNAC. I did get everyone to agree that Bush was a financial disaster so I guess I made headway with a few of them. Prairie Village for Kerry!

8. I have lived here all my life
and have never seen so many signs for the Dem prez candidate as there are this time. It is awesome!! You are right, from the looks of yard signs, PV is going for Kerry.

I am so proud of my hometown.

10. I was there today, and business is still very brisk! I was happy to see
so many voting early, and also to see a nice old-fashioned paper ballot in front of me!

My 4-y.o. came along. I'm sure he learned a lot about participatory democracy, even though I wouldn't let him knock down the whole row of voting booths the way he wanted to.... ;)
