6,000th post in the Kansas forum
This is the 6,000th post in the Kansas forum. Way to go Kansas DU'ers. Thanks to keeping your fellow Kansans informed of what's going on. Because of grassroots efforts like ours, our state is changing for the better.

1. COOL!
I hope hope hope we will get a good win here in this district. Boyda must be really close when you consider Cheney and now Bush** are having to come here. Also his new ad, the one with his daughter sticking up for her dad because of all the lies being told about him. GAG! Using your kids is low in my opinion and desperate. This is only ONE of the close races here.

We need to compose a post to put in GD and GDP just in case we pull a few (or all) wins. From Kansas, eat it you bashers! School board changed, a new Democrat in congress that nobody ever even heard was running because it was in Kansas and you know they will never go blue and all the others we vote in. HA HA HA!

It also proves how hard everyone here has been working. We have been right about the way we have gone about it and even if we don't win we are coming closer every election.

Can you tell I am fed up? Anxiety rules the day at my house.

Good luck, I hope we fill up a lot of R spots next week. Y'all are the greatest.

2. No kidding
I've posted about Boyda several times in both GD and GDP but the posts always sink. The Ryun-Boyda match-up the topic during the last half hour on CSPAN's Washington Journal yesterday. After it ended I came to DU and I posted about a plea to our fellow DU'ers to help turn Kansas blue and it sank like a stone (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2919875&mesg_id=2919875).

Kansas is changing faster than most people thought possible and yet we remain ignored.

I'm fed up too but I comfort myself with the thought that the rest of the country is going to be wondering how we did it when all is said and done.

FYI, I thought a lot about you and the work you do when I replied in this thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2538469&mesg_id=2539745 :hugs:

3. Nice post.

We did it here by knowing our people and working our asses off knowing how to reach them. How many times did we get the advice to leave the idiots here? How many times were we told to react with anger and nastiness because that was all the dopes in this state deserved? We had to argue with people about how that will not work here and then we got called the problem. Well, we may not make it this time but we are getting very darned close to doing it. I think, I really think Nancy will win. Morrison will win. Kathleen will win. Wish there was a chance to get rid of Thornburg but I think he is entrenched deeply. It will be interesting to see what happens across the state.

It really is just too much fun to make fun and disparage people here. :eyes: I don't understand it but we very well may be making a strong point next week about how it is to live in a state that is what, 60% Red and pull out a big Blue win? Maybe it has been for the best that we have been ignored because I know for a fact that the ideas that were being passed around here were not going to work.

7. Good for you.
I am stunned by the amount and the great ads she has put out. They really are good and then the fact that the DCCC has done one without being asked.

I know some of my GLBT friends are still very worried about her, they felt so betrayed before but I think she will show us a lot about how important the grass roots are and how constricting the political organizations can be. I hope she proves to be as much their friend as she expressed to me. She seems a woman of her word.

8. In 2004
she allowed the DCCC to advise and almost takeover her campaign. This time she didn't ask them. She wanted to do this with the supporters she had in Kansas. She's refused money from the PACs that gave her so much back in 2004, including AIPAC, because she didn't want to be beholden to them or their ideas.

fwiw, she was getting lamblasted on the KSDP website for supporting abortion, gay marriage and Darwin from what appears to be a freeper. I've highlighted Nancy's stances that the writer is upset about.

In order to make an informed decision I went to IVOTEVALUES.COM Mr. Ryun had clearly publicized his positions on the issues for all to see. Nancy Boyda refused to do so. I wrote to Nancy Boyda's election headquarters and stated that if she wanted my consideration, she should make clear her views on the following issues. I stated... Are you pro life? Or pro abortion? are you in favor of protecting the sanctity of marriage?, and do you feel that creation should be addressed equally to evolution in the Kansas classroom? The response that I received was lengthy, wordy, and devoid of any affinative answer. Nancy did not have time to respond, however I received a letter from her campaign manager stating that ??Nancy felt that the questions required a ??YES, or NO? answer, and that these are not ??YES or NO? questions. She does however feel that it is appropriate to have an abortion if the mother and a doctor think that it is in the best interest of the mother. (Murder is OK if you get a doctors excuse.) Gays should have the right to marry. (Sodomy, polygamy, and marrying my own sister is OK with old Nance!) and that Darwin was right and she doesn??t care what science or God has to say about it. I am obviously being extreme, but this was my interpretation of her manager??s response. Please do your own investigation of her views before you cast a vote for someone who is hiding her viewpoints.

You might pass this on to them.

9. I have told them but I
will save this. I think she can count on their votes for the most part but they are going to keep some pressure on her because they don't trust her yet. I was satisfied after speaking with her but then she is not threatening my rights directly so I have to understand their point of view. Still I think they will be voting for her. Of course I can't speak for them, this is just what I have gotten by asking.

10. They can only vote their conscience
and I respect their decisions. As you know, I think it is better to have someone like Nancy than to have someone like Jim. At least Nancy will listen, Jim's mind is made up. But again, I respect their decisions, whatever they may be.

11. That is how I feel
although I have given up on the voting D's in and changing them from the inside after they are in mantra. It may work to get them elected but very few ever let themselves be influenced a different way after they are in office. It frustrates me.

I have to admit that I have not studied Nancy's site or much about her since I am doing other things but I really did like her and she seems pretty progressive, enough for me anyway. I felt I learned enough in that one meeting to feel pretty confident that she was a good vote. I hope my impression is correct. Thank you for the opportunity to meet her.

5. Cut and run
You're right. They told us to basically cut our losses and run but we didn't. We knew our neighbors had to come around eventually and the best way to facilitate it was to talk.

I also think Sebelius, Boyda and Morrison will win. I really believe it. We'll end up with a strong presence in the legislature too. I'm holding out hope for Haley overtaking Thornberg. He came on strong and defeated the favorite Beatty. Also, on that CSPAN segment yesterday one caller (who said he was registered unaffiliated) said he was fed up enough that he was voting a straight party ticket for the first time and it was going to be the Democratic ticket. He was an older guy, by the way. There was also an older woman from Leavenworth who said she was a Republican and would be voting for Boyda and other Dems.

Charlie Cook, the political analyst, said that the Boyda race would be the story of 2006 if she wins.

12. I'm hoping that with *'s low numbers, his help isn't enough to save Ryun.
I'd be thrilled to see him gone. I have hopes for a lot of other great Dems here too.

13. You aren't the only one
Ryun has already lost around 20% of his support since 2004.
