2. It should be good.
I like the Admiral's logic. Hold the meeting an hour before the party, and force people to focus.
He's gonna get mad at us.

Maybe nobody will notice if two out of six are fucking off.
Oh, wait. I'm supposed to be in charge.
Well, this could deteriorate fast.

The Admiral will pull rank and takeover. I'm not willing to pull a mutiny and I don't think you are either. Besides, it will give you a chance to take me on a tour of your basement/mutant cricket laboratory.

16. If you only knew
how many times I've heard that. While my sister was saving money for clothes and make-up, I was saving money for witch hazel to preserve my specimans. I kind of got stuck in my Island of Dr. Moreau period longer than most people. I outgrew that and moved on to saving fire crackers to make small explosives for when my Barbie and Ken were trying escape Viet Nam. I was a strange child, definitely not your regular girl.

19. Oh man, you would have loved it
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 12:42 PM by Mabus
All year long we'd put together models - ships, air craft carriers, Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy, airplanes - and every once in a while we'd play Viet Nam with saved up firecrackers. We'd stage these big battles. We'd make forts out of wooden blocks, Lego's, anything we could get our hands on and set up encampments in the backyard. We'd dig moats and fill them with water, frogs and horned toads. We'd start off shooting bottle rockets at each other. We'd escalate things by setting fire to the lines of gun powder we poured out of the fireworks. The lines of gun powder lead to small caches of fire crackers covered in gun powder and about a third of them would actually explode. If something didn't get blown up, we'd tape an ammo belt (connected firecrackers) to it and set them off.

One time my dad got mad at us when we were in the middle of battle. I'm not quite sure what set him off but it may have been that we were chasing one of sisters around the outside of the house with lit Roman Candles. She was pretty quick but one of my brothers finally got her with a pop bottle rocket when she rounded a corner. He got her again across the face after she ran in the house. She made the mistake of opening the back door to let us know she was going to tell on us. He shot off a rocket and it got her across the face. Dad got home and all hell broke loose. He was so mad that he gathered all the fireworks, models and other toys together in a newspaper bundle, poured kerosene on it and then lit it on fire. I still remember the look on his face as the match left his hand and he realized what he had just done.

Aw, the memories. I didn't just have a child hood, I survived it.

fwiw, my sister's scar went almost completely away the day she gave herself an unintentional chemical peel. Yeah, her face was puffy and red for days but most of her scars went away.

edited to change "moot" to "moat"

Fireworks aren't as fun any more. Not since evlspwn had a hole put in her face. Though you can barely see her scar now.

27. I can tell her how to do a home chemical peel
though I might have to call my sister to go over exactly what was done. I do remember that the doctor told her she had burned several layers of skin off. She got rid of the few acne scars she had too.

Beyond any of this, I don't remember a scar on evlspwn's face. She's so gorgeous. She really is.

32. She had a hole clean through her left cheek.
And a big circular burn. We were sure it would scar. Instead it just looks like a dimple.
And her acting education goes on. She's been selected for the second time to go to the Kennedy Center Academic Theatre Festival, and will be doing Chechov in the Spring.

Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 12:41 AM by proud2Blib
Don't know if you know I am out of town right now and missed out on the planning for all these upcoming events. We are having the Gore meetup and then the WWJD party? On the same night? I am not sure I can take that much excitement.

BTW, I am in Memphis on a little vacation. We are staying across the street from Graceland. Our hotel plays Elvis movies in the lobby and in all the rooms 24/7. There is Elvis music in the hallways outside our room (which overlooks the guitar shaped swimming pool). I think maybe I have overdosed on Elvis and am suffering dain bramage.

Do you want me to bring you back a velvet Elvis?

and I will look for velvet paintings just for you.

We went to the Stax museum today. It is friggin awesome!! Highly highly recommended. It alone is worth a trip to Memphis. I could have spent a couple days there.

We also went by the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. King died. We had been there a few years ago so we didn't go in. But one new thing they have added is they have enclosed the window across the street where James Earl Ray shot Dr. King. Spooky.

My version is, I said we always talk about when we're getting together on the forum and you'd be more than welcome to join us. In other words, you get the same invite that everyone else gets. And if no one is inviting anyone somewhere but you're feeling itchy to do something then make a suggestion that we have our semi-regular, sort of official DU meetup. I'm easy. ;)

It might be time to get together again and talk about the rapture. That's always fun.
