Committee confirms Dem's victory in House race (now the House will take up the issue)

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A House committee has concluded that a Democrat won the hotly contested 16th District race in November.

The decision means it's likely that Representative Gene Rardin of Overland Park will keep his seat when the House takes up the issue.

Two weeks ago, a Johnson County district judge declared Rardin he winner over Republican John Dennis Kriegshauser by only two otes out of more than 8,200 cast.

But Kriegshauser questioned whether some ballots were cast by voters who lived outside the district, so he asked the House to review the race.

2. Wonderful news.

Every single ballot Kriegshauser has challenged has made no difference in the count. So to now claim that some ballots were cast by voters outside the district makes absolutely no difference. Yeah, it was a close race. But Rardin won.
