I have been VERY disappointed with the Governor
We could have had expanded gambling in Kansas had she kept it to a couple of casino's and slots for the dog tracks. 5 "world class" casino's, dog tracks, fraternal organization slots, bowling ally slots, and recreational facility slots......AIN"T GONNA HAPPEN IN KANSAS.
Vetoed concealed carry for hand guns....we're 1 of 4 states in the entire union that doesn't have it. Her arguments against are 20 years old.
She has done more to unite the Republican party in Kansas than any governor in the last 20 years....
We will pay a price in November.

1. Silliness
What I don't know about Kansas politics could fill a very large book, and I'm not going to evaluate Sebelius, but I do think you made some mistakes.

Its not true that "four states in the entire union" don't have concealed carry. While its true that Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and Kansas don't offer any permit, in reality you're not going to get one in California, Iowa, New York, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or Hawaii. In DC, for example, you are allowed to conceal a gun if you have a permit, but it is illegal for the city to issue you that permit, and it is illegal to transport a handgun in any way outside a home or business. The other states I listed typically have slightly less limiting laws, but they're close enough so that it is inaccurate to pretend that there's some overwhelming nationwide consenus on C&C when there's not. Moreover, even if there were that consensus, what valid public purpose would allowing C&C serve? How is Kansas hurt by the status quo?

As for the gambling business, my understanding is that it was the State Senate committee looking into Sebelius' plan added on all the rather ridiculous extensions - like allowing organized gambling in bowling allies - that made her bill unpassable.

2. You're correct.
And KS Republicans always unite after they help us elect a Dem Gov. hey realize their ultra conservative nominees don't appeal to voters in general. But, two problems here. The primary process generally brings out the ultra conservatives again and the old divisions resurface. And Gov. Sebelius has great cross over appeal and always has. We are not doomed.

5. We're in a lot better shape than MO
Better governor and more mature legislature. In Jeff City, the Repub House floor leader makes fart noises and siren sounds when the Democrats say things he doesn't agree with.:puke:

At least we're not dealing with this kind of idiocy.

6. Silliness, not
Sebelius could have easily passed a bill with 1 or 2 casino's and slots at the dog tracks. However she chose to go for 5 casino's(nobody things Kansas can support that),slots at the dog tracks, and slots at fraternal's. Yes , the Senate did add bowling ally's, but the bill was dead long before that.
The Sebelius proposal was for 5 "state owned" casino's,something that has never been done by ANY state. The native american tribes promised a lawsuit....what a mess.
As for the concealed carry, it passed the house and senate by veto prof margins....She vetoed the bill and a few members of the house changed their vote on the override. I'm afraid we'll pay a price, as many other democrats have, in the November election. Those NRA people vote.

3. KS governor
Sebelius has some positive things going her way...she has been somewhat active in paying attention to school funding, etc.

Who will run for the Repubs? That idiot Phill Kline?

7. Kerr maybe again? He is more moderate and bigger risk to us.
I'd welcome Kline. He barely won and no one knew his opponent. The Gov would clobber him in 2006.
