Hmmm, Jim Bernhard's Shaw Group under investigation
Contracts for recovery work raise controversy
By Kevin McCoy, USA TODAY

The Shaw Group, a Louisiana firm that won housing and engineering contracts worth up to $200 million, has disclosed that it is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The firm is also a defendant in federal securities class-action cases.

In its annual report filed in July, the Shaw Group disclosed that it was the subject of what the company termed an "informal inquiry" by the SEC. The firm said it was cooperating with investigators, who had not told the firm the reason for the inquiry or its scope. The SEC declined to comment.

Separately, federal securities class-action cases accuse the Shaw Group and its executives of defrauding investors with misleading statements about the company's finances and management.

The firm did not respond to phone messages seeking comment. But in its annual report, the firm said it believed all of its financial statements satisfied generally accepted accounting principles, "and that none of our press releases or public filings contained misrepresentations or omissions."

Moreover, in a Sept. 8 news release announcing its Hurricane Katrina award, the firm said it was also doing emergency contract work for the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Navy and other agencies.

1. Well we shouldn't be surprised, should we?
Afterall Bernhard was a Repuke until a few weeks before he was chosen as the head of the Louisiana Democratic Party...he's probably returned back to the Repukes now, after resigning and NOT even having the manners to tell Governor Blanco he was resigning.

When are we ever going to learn? A leopard doesn't change it's spots, these Repukes who switch to Democratic, in my opinion MOST of them are spies and are reporting back to the RNC whilst pretending to be a Democrat.

How can people be so damn stupid as to believe these pigs? There was NOTHING wrong with Michael Skinner, he shouldn't have been replaced.

2. Interesting. I'm investigating White Phosphorous production,
(yes, the chemical weapon currently being employed as such in Iraq) - see eg. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5337185#5343660

...And, I saw that Shaw Group subsidiary Shaw Environmental has the contract for modernization of the White Phosphorus Plant at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in Pine Bluff, AR. ("the only white phosphorus plant in the United States.") - subcontracted to Teledyne Brown Engineering (Teledyne Technologies).

Gathering data on Shaw naturally led (amongst many other things - still ongoing) to J.M. Bernhard, Jr., Shaw Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and hence to:

Shaw Group's Founder/Chairman BERNHARD, JAMES M. JR is/was Chairman of the Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Committee (2004-2008)

Nothing to Display

Well, anyway, it's good to see that Louisiana DUers are onto the guy (on account of the FEMA contracts, at least) and to learn from here that he did in fact resign at what must have been for him a very good time.

I think I'll try posting a new thread here to see if anyone has any further useful info on this guy and his companies... But I'll just leave this comment here for a while (not sure how much exposure to give it yet). I guess I'm looking especially for, you know, Shrub/Cheney-type connections. What do you guys think?
