I just want to SCREAM!!! ARGGGHHH!!

I can't believe my trip to Washington DC for the anti-war protest is probably cancelled. Oh well. By the time Rita is over, that may be a small consideration.

ARGGGHHHH!!

4. I guess since Florida was the hurricane magnet last year
it's our turn this year. If Rita hits along the western coast by Lake Charles anyone who fishes for a living might as well just hang it up. The toxic crap that will eventually come out of the New Orleans area will kill everything along the eastern Gulf, and if Lake Charles or Westlake takes a hit, their chemical plants will leak crap along the bird flyways and kill everything along the western side of the Gulf. And here we sit in the middle. The rice and crawfish farmers might as well kiss their crops goodbye if Rita hits the coast anywhere between us and Lake Charles because of the salt water intrusion that will result. It will kill their ponds. My, My, I sound like Little Mary Sunshine today, don't I? I can't help it. This state was in bad enough shape before Katrina, and it will take years...if not decades to recover. And now this. If I had my choice, I would have Rita go anywhere else but along the western Gulf....maybe Greenland?

5. Greenland sounds fine to me
Seriously, it's going to be some time before I eat seafood out of the Gulf again.

Saw Blanco on TV a few minutes ago asking for coastal parish residents to ready themselves to go. My bags were all packed for DC, so guess I'm pretty ready. Let's see: bank, post office, gasoline, prescriptions, wash dog (stinky dog in car for a long ride, not nice), try to remember where I hid important papers, take pictures, bring in all plants and outdoor furniture, anything else? Have I said today how much I hate hurricanes....and bush???

Acadiana people, PLEASE check in tomorrow, so we can keep track of each other? It was such a comfort during Katrina, and if I neglected to thank each and every one of you, I THANK YOU NOW!

6. Yep, I liked the check in thread last time too
It was comforting to know that other people were as freaked out as I was. :)

7. I'll provide a few different numbers
I know that Cingular towers were pretty much crap right after the storm. The only way to communicate effectively was Nextel 2-way. I got a Nextel phone from work that I plan on having handy if the storm comes this way.

Acadiana DU'ers will keep in touch!

9. howdy, neighbors.
We're nervous about this one here in Texas, but we're bracing ourselves. I know I am not alone in thinking that, for Rita, better us than you. Y'all have been through enough already.

Be safe.
