Home Insurance.....EEEK!
I have a 30% increase in my homeowner's insurance this year, despite increasing my deductible last year to $5,000. This is highway robbery! Granted, Abbeville is kinda in the path of storms, but are other homeowners in South Louisiana seeing the same increase??

Obviously, I am going to check around for other companies who insure in this area, so can people out there in South Louisiana give me the names of companies they use? THANKS!

1. I'd have to ask my S/O what his rate hike was....
It's his house, so I don't typically see those bills... I do know that he has State Farm insurance, though, and they aren't writing any new policies in Louisiana.

5. State Farm's writing HO again...
I'm getting ready to switch to them in the near future. Their quote is over $100 a year cheaper than what I have now...

2. You are hardly alone
From uptown N.O. comes this tale of insurance woe:

http://ashleymorris.typepad.com/ashley_morris_the_blog/2007/09/fuck-farmers.html

2005 homeowners insurance: $1926
2006 homeowners insurance: $2343
2007 homeowners insurance bill: $4599

What I can't figure out is why he got gouged so much worse this year, rather than right after the storm.

3. Yes, it is this year's bill that has the huge increase,
not the year after the storm. What gives?

4. I'm in Slidell.
2005 INS = $2300
2006 INS = $3900

They increased the deductible and managed to whittle it down to $3400.

I checked around and couldn't find anything better.

6. I think ours increased about 30% as well
We were actually relieved because we had heard horror stories of 100+% increases.
