My trip to the End of the Earth
Went to Port Sulfur, Buras, Fort Jackson, and Venice, etc. to see what is happening on day 37 of the BP disaster... not much. :(

1. Friend came in from offshore earlier this week
He said when he came into Venice, he was shocked at what was NOT happening. This time of year, Cypress Cove Marina should be selling lots fuel and bait, but they are laying off employees. BTW, I hate hate hate the Belle Chasse tunnel!

2. I was supposed to visit a friend in Ponchatoula, but he cancelled at the last minute.
So, I decided to go see what was happening down in Venice with a colleague (we do environmental assessments in NOLA). He's never eaten at Middendorf's so we'll have to make that trip soon. I brought him to Salvo's on Belle Chase, just south of that dreaded tunnel for a softshell crab po-boy and crawfish - he said it was the best seafood he'd ever eaten in his life (he from Illinois). :9

Btw, I lived in Hammond when I went to SLU (hwy 22), and have family all the way to Bedico, and as far up as Kentwood, so I know your area very well. ;)

3. I am actually in Slidell
but have family in Echo and Martinsville, as well as family in New Orleans (my mom's Acadian vs. French/Italian family).
