David Duke
I have heard from several people (haven't seen any news on it) that David Duke is planning on running for the senate. God I hope not, because the national media will be all over it and it will once again embarass Louisiana. Do you guys think anyone will take him seriously after he just got out of prison for bilking his cro magnon supporters?

1. I'd say that with this conviction he is just a little better qualified
to be a star in the republican party

2. Scariest part about Duke is the fact I agree...
With his foreign policies. He believes we should stop giving out aid to Israel and stay out of other peoples business. Pat Buchanan also believes the same thing. The other parts of them, I find totally repulsive.

3. my understanding is he can't hold office for 15 years
The only reason he ran for office was to get money to donate to Vegas and (in later years) Casino Magic. What makes me weep is that I would see this man throwing away money in the casinos, but I don't think anyone ever listened to me, except people who wouldn't have given him a dime anyway. I think he should be prohibited from any activity that involves "fundraising" for life but I think the local paper said he could not run for office for 15 years. It's a start. His supporters are brain dead though -- they'll just give money to his so-called publishing concern.

4. He can still serve in Congress
The only reqirements to serve in the House are:

No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.

The only requirements to serve in the Senate are: No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.

The states are not permitted to add additional qualifications.

6. yes I was wrong
I can't believe he is going to be allowed to go back to embezzling (excuse me) "fund-raising" again.

I now understand why they can't tell him not to run for office, but I don't see why they couldn't ban him being allowed to raise money. It will all go to the casinos....it is not good for anyone, it makes the state look bad that he continues to be active politically, it stirs up hate, and it really isn't even good for Duke as it zaps his recovery all to heck.

I guess maybe it's good for Casino Magic though. It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good.

5. I was told that was on the NOLA news yesterday.
Not which race (unintended pun noted), but that he announced he was planning on running, possibly this year.

Speculation I heard - he'll oppose Jindal.

8. He'll be taken as seriously as he ever was....by the same idiots.....
...that always supported him. I first registered to vote against him in his bid for Gov...as my own Dad kept tellin' me to register to vote FOR him...so I did out of anger and resentment and negated my Dad's vote for him. Amazing that his pathetic ass is out of jail and back into politics...when Edwin Edwards whole life was taken from him by illegal wiretaps at his residence and allowed to be used against him in court by repuke judges. :grr:

Duke came up here to Monroe back in the late 80's and was dating a girl who worked for my Mom...she was only 19yrs. old at the time. :puke:

9. We booed Duke at UNO
We booed David Duke when he came to UNO sometime around 1990. I was a music major at the time, and I gathered all my friends from the Drama and Music department to go give him Hell. We goose-stepped, laughed and called him a Nazi - a real cathartic experience - until he was red-faced and angry... then the asshole left. Ha ha ha! Then we went to the Sandbar to have a beer!

Is that Nazi bastard out of jail yet?
