By Manuel Torres
East Jefferson bureau

BellSouth lobbyist Billy Tauzin III announced Saturday that he will run for the 3rd Congressional District seat now held by his father, Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-Chackbay.

"I have traveled the district extensively, visiting with people and listening to their wants and needs," the younger Tauzin said in a statement. "I am truly humbled by the support I have received from Breaux Bridge to Belle Chasse."

A manager of regulatory and external affairs for BellSouth, Tauzin, 30, previously worked for Bell Atlantic Mobile.

His father is recovering from cancer and is not seeking re-election.
