moving back to maine! seeking info on ISPs near Old Town
I am moving to the boonies of Hudson, Maine (about 12 mi west of Old Town on 43) and am getting the sinking feeling after a lot of web-surfing that my Internet options might amount only to dialup in that area. I have checked a bunch of high-speed providers' websites who seem to be around that area but none provide service to zip 04449. Any of you know something else? Please prove me wrong!!

1. Wish I could...
I'm north of Old Town (even more boony-ville than Hudson, so much so we call it the "wicky whacks")and my only non-dial up option is through Directv or Dish. If you have Time Warner Cable service to Hudson (not sure if it goes out there)you can get service through Roadrunner. The Customer Service sucks though...on a monumental scale. My place of employment, located in Orono, used Adelphia before TW/Roadrunner took over and the Customer Service became non-existent. Our company lost internet access and it took three days to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT with a technician and that appointment was for a week later. They saw no problem with making a business account wait 10 days without internet access just to get someone to look at the problem. We immediately switched to DSL service but I don't think you'll find that option in Hudson. A friend of mine in Bangor had a similar problem with her personal Roadrunner account.

Welcome back, by the way! Bring your snow shovel!

3. that sounds horrible! but TW/RR not available there
I had noticed them advertising on TV in Bangor but their website says not available in my zip. I was so happy when I graduated from dialup in Florida, I really hate the idea of going back.

I am ready for snow after 8 miserable years in the high-humidity strip-mall rat race of Florida!

6. I hear you about Florida
I just visited an old friend in Orlando and all I can say is "Wow". It's so crowded and so uncomfortably hot and sticky. It's like L.A. with 80% humidity.

2. Don't know about Hudson
I don't know about Hudson, or even where it is, for that matter..lol..sorry. I'm in southern central, near Auburn, and I have DSL through Verizon.

I would imagine that Verizon services Hudson, no?? Course, this is Maine, ya never know.
Good Luck, and welcome back. :hi:

4. Verizon website says no
They can't find my address in their database, which I guess indicates they don't service that area, but I will call them to be absolutely sure. Thanks!!

8. Another source
Go to:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/maine/

It's a website for people who are thinking about moving to Maine. There's a regular poster there who lives in Argyle, which is near Hudson. I think his handle is Forest Beekeeper. He must have some insights into Web access.
