Pittsfield: MCI collects winter firewood for needy
PITTSFIELD — If you’ve got firewood you can donate, or a hankering to help split wood, then Maine Central Institute wants to hear from you.

The independent school has started a project to collect as much wood as possible and then give it away at little or no cost to people who need it to help heat their homes this winter. The project will be officially unveiled at a community cookout held at the school’s track field from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Friday.

The wood will be given away using the honor system, Fortin said, meaning they will except donations from people who take firewood, or whatever people are able to pay. If someone can’t afford to pay, the firewood will still be given out at no cost. “It will be different for each person,” Huff said.

After expenses are paid from donations that are received, MCI plans to also donate the money they make toward helping people in need of assistance this winter paying for heating expenses.

1. I wonder if I count as needy
Moving into my house next week, it has a woodstove in the kitchen and that would really be a good thing to have over this winter...
