1. Signs are impossible to get from the printers
Everything is backordered everywhere.

Many counties are printing their own. (Knox County has done this in the past and made them available to other counties.)

Even the Obama campaign can't get them.

3. Paranoid canvasee...
Hi. I'm a noob and don't have enough posts to begin a thread. If this is too off-topic or too stupid I'll so understand if you want to delete it.

This afternoon a guy wearing a cap that said "McCain/Palin Teamleader" came to my door ostensibly canvassing. He asked four questions:

1) Obama or McCain? Obama
2) How strongly? Very strongly
3) Major issue, healthcare/economy/gas prices/foreign relations? Economy
4) Collins or Allen? Allen

Then he left. No discussion, no proselytizing, no handouts.

Is this normal? I've never been questioned without some sort of friendly exchange of ideas. Between all the rising McCain/Palin mob unrest and Republican efforts to sideline Democratic voters I'm feeling creeped out. I feel marked.

Someone please tell me I'm being paranoid.

Sorry to be momicking up the thread.

7. You're so very right.
He wasn't back to the curb yet before I realized it. Hindsight, ya know. If I had it to do over I would have lied on every question just to skew their results.

I'm just hoping that if Palin manages to incite her mouth-breathers to violence I won't be visited by a truckload of them a la Rwanda 1994.

I'm going this morning to vote absentee, hoping to get ahead of any plans they might have to try to expunge me from the rolls.

8. We tried to get a couple for our lawn. We got ONE and
they'd give out no more, saying they really didn't have anything else to give us. Humph.

Anyhow, devinkay, welcome to DU! And I checked out your webpage... you look stunning!

9. Thanks, Lisa!
I enjoyed your MySpace page, too. Have you read Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor? It sounds like it might be right up your alley, rich and tawdry historical fiction: http://www.amazon.com/Forever-Amber-Kathleen-Winsor/dp/1556524048/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223723409&sr=8-3.

6. I have yet to see a presidential sign for either candidate.
I was starting to notice this week the lack of presidential signs.

Local candidates signs are all over the place, as well as Collin's and Allen's signs.

12. Maybe we have them all up here.
There are quite a few up here in Camden/Rockport. Maybe not as much as people want or as demand calls for, but more than there has been in past weeks. Both candidates as well as local. First it seemed like there was a McCain fairy around, but now there is a definite increase in Obama signs - I have seen some homemade signs too. Someone has a huge banner for Obama hanging from their upstairs porch in the village of Rockport. My son spotted it while riding home on the school bus last month. According to my son there has been heated discussion on the school bus about the election - my son just turned 6. ;-)

13. Presidential signs do not exist in Maine...
Sagadahoc Dems ordered some a while back and will probably never get them. It's just not a priority to put Obama signage up in Maine. It would be about as useful as putting McCain signs up in Utah. The state is not a battleground so any extra resources spent by the general campaign here are wasted. The money being spent in Maine is from the DSCC/DNC not really Obama. As nice as it would be to have a sign, I would rather the sign that would be in my yard is instead in someone's yard in Ohio, Florida or Virginia. It'll do a lot more good there.

15. I picked up yard signs today
at the Dem headquarters on Commercial Street in Portland. The Obama/Biden signs were only $2.00. The Allen and Pingree signs were free.
