Maine Senate voted in favor of Marriage Equality

And voted to NOT send it out for referendum.

Of course, opponents can collect the signatures for a people's veto.

I'm very proud of our Senate right now!

1. I heard the Senate was supposed to be the tougher body to get it past.

Hopefully it will go through the House as well, and Baldacci won't balk at it.

2. It should pass the House easily.

I'm hearing that the Gov will sign it. But who knows?

<On Thursday, Rector was one of the senators who voted for the bill that was approved 20-15 in that Legislative chamber.

"There was a flood of calls, an ocean of calls," Rector said.

He noted he received telephone calls nightly until 10 p.m. He also received thousands of e-mails — the most, by far, of any issue during his years in the Legislature.>

<Rector was the lone Republican in the Senate to vote for the bill.>

<The Maine House is expected to vote Tuesday.>
