It's Game Time Folks...
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 08:37 PM by nickshepDEM
Primary season has come and gone. For better or worse we have our ticket, but the most important thing to remember heading into this general election is, we're all Democrats. Democrats united in a common fight - to take back the Governor's mansion in Annapolis, hold our US Senate Seat, keep our majority in the general assembly, and send a message that Maryland is and always will be a Democratic stronghold.

Our Team

For Governor - Mayor Martin O'Malley and Anthony Brown

For US Senate - Congressman Ben Cardin

For Attorney General - Doug Gansler

For Comptroller - Peter Franchot

I urge each of you to volunteer as much time as possible this election season. Last Saturday I volunteered for Baltimore County Councilman John Olszewski and Martin O'Malley. Our team of volunteers managed to hit 15,000 homes with multiple pieces of literature - nothing better than strong grassroots foot soldiers.

Make no mistake, the MD-Republican party is motivated and they believe this election will be a referendum not only for Governor Ehrlich and Lt. Governor Michael Steele, but for their entire party. They believe there is an electoral and philosophical shift occuring in Maryland.

Lets send them a message - It's our state and we're taking it back - all of it.

Thanks and lets get to work!

1. Make Michael Steele admit he's a Republican, damn it!
I'm sick of Steele's non-party affiliation "I'm just a regular good guy" commercial!

It's obvious to me that he's trying to pull a fast one.

There are bound to be thousands of photos os Steele with Ehrlich out there.

Here's a link to a few.

2. Steele/Bush photos would be even better.
And wait until you see his latest ad - Michael Steele hates puppies.

6. Wow, he really running as fast as he can from the Republican
Culture of Corruption. He sounds like he is trying to "out-Democrat" the Democrat that is running (Cardin). Don't know if that will work, when you can just vote for a REAL Democrat named Ben Cardin!!!!

7. Lets hope it doesnt work... Check this out...
Something happend the other day at my girfriends house that nearly took the breath away. My GF's mom is a diehard democrat. I dont believe she has ever voted for a Republican, but the other day she said, "Nick, who is that tall, good looking, black guy all over TV? Im voting for him."

I thought to myself... Mfume? Cummings? Who the hell is she talking about? Then it hit me, Steele. She continued on to say, "He's speaks well, he's good looking, and I like the fact that he's running as an Independent."

She had no idea he was our Lt. Gov. She also had no idea he was a Republican. I informed her of his part affiliation, but she said she was voting for him anyway. She was actually quite pissed that she couldnt vote for him this Tuesday.

8. Thats what worries me also.
He makes no mention of being a republican (AND SUPPORTING THE REPUB positions) and comes across as a very nice and principaled person. I hope the real positions and ties to the Bush administration are exposed during this race.

9. Very true, and for the past 3 months he's been beating
his 'independent reformer image' into the voters head. It will be very, very hard to reverse that now. The DSCC has bought 1 million in air time to try and help Cardin reverse Steele's image, but the negative attacks could backfire because the voters have built a positive opinion of him.

10. Wasn't Steele the one who was paid to run with Ehrlich?
Why, yes. He was:

In fact, here is some of the August 27, 2002, Baltimore Sun article that broke the scandal:

The Maryland Republican Party is paying Michael S. Steele $5,000 a month in consulting fees under an arrangement that began shortly after his selection as gubernatorial candidate Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s running mate.

Although the payments appear legal, Democrats said the GOP's contract with Steele raises ethical questions and suggests the party might be subsidizing the living expenses of a candidate for statewide office.

"It looks to me like they've hired themselves a candidate," said David Paulson, a spokesman for the state Democratic Party.

Steele - who held the unpaid position of Republican Party chairman when he was tapped to run for lieutenant governor - defended the consulting arrangement yesterday, saying he negotiated the deal as a way to continue working on party issues while he campaigns. The contract was not a condition of his candidacy, he said.

"I have a consulting business. I have consulting clients. I have to take care of my family," he said. "The state is paying (the salary of Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend) while she is running for governor. So what's the difference?"
