Pretty good ad if you ask me. He's already set the tone for the negative ads to come. Not sure if this translates into votes, but I do think he could bring home a few from sympathetic voters who are tired of negative politics.

1. This ad is negative
It is accusing the Democrats of attacking him in advance of anyone attacking him. All we need to do is point out the facts, speaking the truth is not negative, the facts are simple:

Steele = Rubber Stamp for Bush

Steele = More of the same in Iraq, in the Economy

Steele = Same Old Shit - claiming to have a fresher odor

I don't see that this ad as setting a sympathetic tone - just a little pathetic - "The big bad democrats are going to pick on me".

He hits a couple of hot button issues - neither of which he will do anything about. He is misleading the citizens and we, as Democrats, need to do help our party bring out the truth.

2. Of course it is
but it presents him as all nice and reasonable. He grins and scratches the puppy under the chin.

Fine commercial. I'd hire his guys in a New York second.

3. It's a stupid ad and only slightly better than the last one.
Steele= smiling buffoon. He's NOT an uncle Tom or anything, just a plain idiot. God I hope he loses!

4. It is a very slick polished ad, makes him look sympathetic
I was impressed. Good pre-emptive strike, much as I hate to say it. I expect the RNC to put much money into his campaign.

Steele can be a real threat. His approach in this state is easy, because he is not responsible for anything as Lt.Gov., and many voters are not pegged entirely to party loyalties.

5. Yeah, but he's still ashamed to be a republic!
Where on any of his campaign literature or ads does he actually say he's a republic?

He's ashamed to be identified with his own party! That is what we chould pick on him for.

8. Make Donations To Cardin!
I'm at the Cardin site making a donation now. We need to get issues ads out there to counter Steele's "I'm not really a bad guy" crap.

9. These ads remind me of tactics used by fundies on college campuses
I've been to a few evangelical Christian meetings open to the general public...Campus Crusade for Christ, for example, did a forum on rock 'n' roll I remember going to out of curiosity.

They always start off with a fun trivia quiz or some humor or something that makes it look like they're really fun, hip guys, but slowly their real agenda emerges and before you realize it they're ranting that you're going to hell if you keep listening to that devil music.

I'm not saying Steele is a religious zealot, just that his tactics remind me of those used by some fundies to attract people while concealing their real agenda.
