Gazette endorses Ehrlich.
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 10:47 AM by nickshepDEM

In four years, Ehrlich has carefully sculpted a moderate image that is fiscally and socially responsible, and demonstrated he is up to the task of leading a changing Maryland for another term.

1. The Gazette is SO rethuglican
We get the Gaithersburg Gazette and I can't bring myself to read their biased editorials.

2. Does it hold much weight? Think it will swing some votes?

3. I think it will just reinforce decisions
to vote one way or another. I never thought it had that big of an influence. People read it for the local sports, school news, classifieds, etc.

The big question is how the Washington Post endorsement will go. The Post owns the Gazette newspapers, but I don't know whether one affects the other editorially. However, given the absence of major scandal by Ehrlich (other than the political purges of dedicated and experienced civil servants who happened to be Democrats), the Post will probably just go with the status quo.

How about the Sun? Will they endorse local-boy O'Malley?

4. I think they will. The Sun and Ehrlich dont really get along.

He banned some reporters from talking with people in his administration. The case went to court. They're pretty pro-O'Malley.

That would suck if the Post endorses Ehrlich. They carry a lot of weight.

6. they won't
I'm fairly certain. And that endorsement carries a lot more weight in the down ballot races. People know enough about the big races.

5. no one
reads the gazette. They lost a good deal of their endorsements. Even in legislative races. The candidate they endorsed in the State Senate race in District 19 barely got 22 percent against my candidate. They hold very little sway. Stop worrying about this.
