1. my state senate candidate
lost the Gazette endorsement and then was endorsed by the Post. Its not monolithic. IN fact, the Gazette has made some weird endorsements this year.

5. yes
I would think so. The paper doesn't seem to like Ehrlich too much.

4. never heard of the Latino group
I doubt many others have either. The County's political environment is pretty much diametrically opposed to the Chamber of Commerce agenda right now. I wouldn't sweat that one at all.

6. Chamber of Commerce's tend to be very conservative.
They will most likely endorse any republican candidate.

7. I'm a former Marylander who loves to read Maryland news
I live near San Jose CA now and the Chamber of Commerce is heavily involved in the San Jose race. The Chamber of Commerce is totally Republican. I think they donate big time to the Repub party.

11. The Montgomery County Chamber
is more moderate than most. They back Dems in a lot of races, but that may be just practicality.

8. Blair Lee said today he was shocked when he heard the news
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 07:34 PM by nickshepDEM
that the Gazette had endorsed Ehrlich. How the hell could he be shocked when he is a lead editorial writer for the paper? He was trying to make it sound as if he had no say. I call BS, he probably helped write the story, which he happens to deny.

10. The Gazette and the MoCo Chamber of Commerce

are virtually one and the same. What one wants, the other wants.

12. Did you notice these sentences in Sunday's Washington Post?
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 11:37 PM by Frances
"The Allen campaign says he has garnered plenty of minority support. For example, a group called the Latino Coalition endorsed him Monday."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/07/AR2006100700908_3.html

I think you pointed out that the same woman supporter appears in Steele and Ehrlich ads.

I wonder if the members of the Latino Coalition are the same people. Do they live in Maryland or Virginia? Of course, it's possible that there is a Latino Coalition in both states, but it's interesting that they are endorsing Republicans in both states.

Edited to correct link.

13. They are a nationwide group. They endorsed a lot of Democrats
and Republicans. For instance, the endorsed Steele, Ehrlich, and Gansler in Maryland. They endorsed Santorum and Rendell in PA.

Very weird set of endorsements.

14. Thanks for the info
You are right about the weird set of endorsements. It would be interesting to know more about the group. Some questions: Do they have chapters in different states that make the endorsements, or is there a central committee sitting in one place that makes these endorsements? What countries are represented in this group and what percentage representation from each country? There are so many countries that could be included. For example, if many of the people are Cuban, then I would expect a Republican tilt.
