Here Come The Fundies...
They're sinking lots of money into the Steele campaign to get the "values voters", according to the WaPo. Last I heard, Maryland was solidly pro-choice.

In Md. Race, Groups Court 'Values Voters'
Abortion Becomes a Defining Issue

By Ann E. Marimow
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, October 22, 2006; Page C05

Religious leaders and abortion foes are pumping more than $140,000 into the final two weeks of the Maryland U.S. Senate contest to motivate "values voters" by elevating such issues as abortion and same-sex marriage in a campaign that has largely been fought over the Iraq war, the future of Social Security and the candidates' disparate styles.

The issue of abortion, though, offers one of the starkest contrasts in the race: Republican Michael S. Steele, a former Catholic seminarian, strongly opposes the practice. Democrat Benjamin L. Cardin, a Baltimore congressman, was the keynote speaker at NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland's annual gala last night in Rockville.

Steele raised the ire of abortion rights advocates last week after MSNBC reported his comments on the Roe v. Wade decision: "It's in the Supreme Court. What piece of legislation in the Senate is dealing with abortion?"

1. Why isn't poverty and hunger a fundie priority?
We need to throw that back in their faces at every turn. They approve of a government who gives to the wealthy at the expense of social programs.

2. interesting
I haven't really seen Steele take stands on ANY issues... other than to be a "free thinker" or whatever the point of his ads has been.
