Dan Snyder buys Progressive Talk 1260 AM

Noooooooo!

What happened to the FCC's former limits on media ownership? Down the old flusher, of course. Now the Washington Redskins owner will own 6 stations in the DC area.

What does this mean for Progressive Talk 1260 AM? Is it doomed to become another sports-talk-Snyder's ego station? Goddess help us all!

Over the past year or so, Clear Channel has chipped away at the station's lineup, replacing our beloved Stephanie Miller with Lionel, whose nasty voice I simply cannot stand. They've also cut off two hours of Thom Hartman's show with some kind of financial advice program that I can't imagine anyone cares about. AND they replay Lionel at night. Ugh. Luckily I live in the Maryland suburbs and can't pick up the station's signal after sunset.

But I'd rather endure Lionel, Bill Press and Ed Schultz if it means I can still listen to Thom for at least part of the afternoon. And at least we can still hear Stephanie from 10 AM to noon on 107.7 FM.

Sad to say, but there really are no limits to media ownership anymore. At least not in this FCC. I hope that gets changed with the new Democratic administration and congress. And maybe they'll reinstate the Fairness doctrine, too. I've listened as the only "Air America" in the area goes downhill. It seems every time I turn on 1260 there's another unknown talker taking the place of a real radio host. When Air America corporate threw Randy under the bus, I pretty much stopped listening to it. You're right about Lionel. Can't stand the Joe Pesci nasally tone. I didn't know that he replaced Stepanie. And please get rid of Bill Press. He's sooooo old school, it's embarrassing. Right now Thom is the only reason I even barely listen to the station. If he goes, I think so will 1260. I'm not sure where Dan stands politically, but based on his past performance, the station will become another cog in the wheel of his giant ego. I can't believe what he's done to my beloved Redskins. He's the Steinbrenner of football.

He will run it into the ground like he is doing with the Redskins (so I am told) and eventually have to sell it all (at a loss) to pay back the bank.

I wonder how much it would cost to buy a station. Would local progressives be able to?

..... it is the RW's plan to just make what was liberal talk radio so horrible even a starved liberal won't listen.
