Anyone here near Hyattsville?
I desperately need a favor. It would simply be a visit to the local library with a few minutes at the microfilm reader.

Some of you might know I'm working on a giant history of my Smith family. I had a guy who died (I think) in Hyattsville (according to the Social Security Death Index).

This guy's name was Melvin James, Jr. He died June 8, 2003 (birthdate September 3, 1927).

I really need a paper copy of the obituary with the newspaper name, date, and page number listed on it so I can use it for documenting my footnotes.

I can send a little bit for mileage or copies if necessary.

Thanks!
fsc

1. The local newspaper is the Hyattsville Gazette (a weekly)
I checked their web site, but really didn't get much from them. Might you be able to call them and have them send you a copy? They should be able to do that.

2. If they have a service on their website, yes.
Otherwise, you have to hire someone in the area to do it for you. Most libraries do not have the staff to search for this stuff, and tell you flatly NO when you request it.

Unfortunately, this economy has hit us hard too. If I could pay someone for a little mileage and a copy, it would be much cheaper than paying an hourly wage to a professional, PLUS mileage PLUS a copy.

3. You can check other libraries in the area
'cause I'm sure there's more than one. You can also do a Google search and it should help in your search. I'm near the New Carrollton/Riverdale area so if you can check the libraries out there it should help too.

4. I know it is more than 2 months now...
...but do you still need it? I live in Hyattsville.
