Malden Ward 6 Councilor Eileen Fay found dead

Ward 6 City Councilor Eileen Fay was found dead in her Maplewood home this morning at the age of 53. A friend reportedly found Fay unresponsive on the couch in her apartment.

Cause of death is not known at this point.

Police say they are working to notify Fay’s next of kin and will not release any details on the incident until that point. Speaking via phone this morning, Chief Kenneth Coye did say police believe the cause of death was natural and no foul play is involved.

Moving to Malden more than 20 years ago, Fay purchased her three-story home on Salem Street where she lived and ran a dog grooming business up until her death. Fay had also been attending law school at night and frequently spoke of attempting to pass the Massachusetts Bar exam.

As a councilor, she spearheaded efforts to renovate Trafton Park and clean up the vandalism and violence problems in Maplewood Square. She worked closely with neighborhood activists to preserve the integrity of High Rock Park, continuing the 30-year effort to prevent a condominium development from entering the open space.
