Mass GOP Backs Baker for Governor
Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 09:46 AM by No Elephants
WORCESTER, Mass. (Map, News) -
Massachusetts Republicans rallied around Charles Baker as their gubernatorial candidate on Saturday, denying rival Christy Mihos the votes he needed to appear on the party's September primary ballot.

The move showed a party further united in the aftermath of Republican Scott Brown's upset U.S. Senate win in January. It also cleared the way for Baker to be the GOP's unchallenged candidate in a general election that could knock off President Barack Obama's good friend, Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick.

To be brutally honest, Deval Patrick is an appealing human being, IMO, but has not bewen a popular Governor. No other Democrat seems to have a realistic shot, though. So, I'll vote for Patrick in the primary, even though I wish we had a better field.

Again, the Republicans will be fired up. Democrats have to be fired up, too, or it will be Brown Coakley deja vu all over again--and Massachusetts has had no troube whatever voting for Republicans for Governor, even in its most liberal heyday.

Donate, volunter, help GOTV, vote. Please.

1. BigDig Baker should not be a formidable opponent.
But we also said the same thing about Senator TreasureTrail.

BTW, I edited my post while you were posting. I'd be interested in your view: should we back Patrick in the primary?

I'm not really excited about him as Governor, but does he have the best shot to win the election, in your opinion?

3. Well, I didn't see Christy Mihos going very far anyway but
as soon as I heard he had attended the Tea Party rally (along with Tim Cahill, who will run as an Independent) I sort of knew his candidacy was toast.

Massachusetts voters have no problem electing a Republican governor, as we all know, but I don't think most of them care to associate themselves with teabaggers.

Scott Brown was wise, IMO, to stay away from it all. Politically speaking, I mean.

was just very photogenic.

5. "Wise:" and :"slick" are two different things. IMO, Brown is "slick."
He got some heavy backing and good advice when he ran against Coakley. And he was slick enough to take it. He is still getting good advice and heavy backing.

We underestimate the Brown turd at our peril. January 2010 should have proved that.
