Another reason that *blue state* Massachusetts is tops . . .
"City (of Boston) leads nation in solving rapes, sexual assaults
By Suzanne Smalley, (Boston) Globe (Newspaper) Staff
November 27, 2004

"Boston police made arrests in slightly more than half of the 263 rapes and attempted rapes reported last year, putting the department ahead of police in the Northeast and across the country.

"The Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates that 44 percent of rapes cases were cleared by arrests nationwide in 2003. Law enforcement agencies in the Northeast performed better than any other region with 48.5 percent of rapes cases solved, the FBI statistics show.

<snip>

"Boston's relative success at making arrests in sexual assault cases may be bolstered in the coming years, observers say, by a fast-growing statewide DNA databank and by new policies emphasizing information sharing and public notification when rapes occur.

"Since last November, anyone arrested for a felony in Massachusetts has been required to submit a DNA sample, giving investigators more information to try to match to evidence found at the scene of a sexual assault. That tool is especially important in rapes by strangers, which victims' advocates say make up many unsolved cases."

1. And for all those right-wingers trying to 'defend marriage'...
...Massachusetts has one of the lowest divorce rates in the country. And guess what? The ones with the highest divorce rates are red states.

4. Isn't this because the red states are basically 3rd world countries?
I mean, would you expect Guatemala to have great social indicators? As Noam Chomsky said, in many of these communities, society is going back to a social climate reminiscent of medieval peasant Europe, no hope and great ignorance. All they know about NYC is Law & Order, NYPD Blue and such garbage. Mass. is an abstraction. They've never left their own area, and probably never will, barring the military.

The U. Maryland showed that Bush voters didn't even know where he stood on the issues. Why does anyone take their opinions seriously? Shouldn't we just be sending in teachers instead, like they did in Reconstruction?

Not to dis the 3rd world, which generally has a lot more visible culture and more knowledgable than Texas or any of that (though just about all US popular music goes back to La., Tenn., etc.).

But you can't expect these people to understand geography or statistics any more than you could expect a medieval European peasant to understand that the world is round. The question is how are we going to educate these people?

7. ROFL!
I spilled Coke on my keyboard, so you owe me a new one! ;)

BTW, any red state jokes are great... especially since I can verify them all. Sad for the hicks down here, but true.

12. Oooooooo, wouldn't I love to *resurrect* . . .
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 12:07 PM by TaleWgnDg
Oooooooo, wouldn't I love to *resurrect* U.S. Senator Charles Sumner, Massachusetts (abolitionist, civil-rights activist) . . . who wanted to *educate* the South immediately after the American Civil War . . .

Wouldn't to be great if the feds would push through effective universal education (as is similar in most economically sound countries) across America in order to bring the south into the 21st century? Egads. Shall I pinch myself? Uummmm, in no way would I ever equate the ridiculous "Leave No Child Behind Act" with "effective universal education," don't even think about it.

edited for typo.

9. Well that makes sense
Many of us here don't regard women as objects, so therefore we do what we can to respect their dignity. I suppose some red states just don't care about women enough to try and solve these crimes.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .Center for Disease Control (CDC) figures, 2002, released July 2004

BTW, it's this culture that the RedStates/Bible Belt wants to push upon the BlueStates . . . think about it.

11. We're so good.
I'm a bit surprised that Vermont has 1.1 more than massachussetts and that new hampshire has 3.3 less, but those are technicalities and I'm happy to prove those hypocritical"god fearing" liars in texas have had nearly the most.
