DUers who live in Boston--Please consider ACLU petition

Over 300 cities, including many contiguous to Boston, have passed resolutions against the provisions of the Patriot Act that interfere with civil rights. At a Meet-Up this evening a volunteer from the ACLU called for active petitioning for such a resolution by the City of Boston.

Boston City Council President, Michael Flaherty, has rejected the resolution on a procedural power he has. The Council President can deny a discussion and a vote by characterizing the resolution as not locally germane.

Therefore four things: 1. Read the resolution(Boston City Council resolution) at website given below and if you agree--
2. Print out the petition(Boston City Council petition) and sign it and mail it to the address given at the bottom. If you are willing to gather more names then collect those and send it.
3. If you have a story of discrimination because of the use of the provisions of the Patriot Act, please write this out and send it along to the ACLU. Of course, you must be willing to identify yourself.
4. If you could personally email me and let me know what action you took, I could then report this back to our group.

The ACLU has documented real stories of abuse by the Patrot Act and is working on all levelso of government to repeal or dull their impact. As citizens we have to act. As yet there have been no Boston residents who have appealed to the post above. If you have please let me know since I do have to report back that this has occured. I really do appreciate your input.

There is a similar ACLU event in Worcester this Wednesday.
