If you're in Western MA next Thursday and want to cause trouble...

GRAD EMPLOYEE WALKOUT / STUDENT BOYCOTT

We're protesting contractual cutbacks for grad employees and faculty as well as an anti-student "diversity" plan being pushed by the chancellor.

These are our five main themes:

1. Support the Community Action Plan, Not Lombardi's Plan
2. Increase the number of faculty in classrooms and labs
3. No cuts to real wages or benefits
4. Student control of student organizations
5. Fair contracts for all campus unions

I'm going to be a picket captain, so I can hook you up with all the juicy details!

I'm not sure what the level of involvement is at other campuses. As for graduate student employees, they're unionized only at Lowell and Boston, I believe, and those unions aren't nearly as well-organized as the one in Amherst.

I would expect some kind of coordinated action, but I haven't heard anything.
