MassEquality and others need volunteers on Earth Day
Earth Day Postcarding at Hatch Shell, Saturday, April 30

Boston has the largest Earth Day celebration in the nation. There will be two organizations (at least!) collecting signatures on the Boston Esplanade on Saturday, April 30.

Democracy for MA (http://www.democracyforma.org) is planning to flyer and sign up pedestrians at the Earth Day celebration on April 30. The goal is to encourage more progressives to participate in meetups and to get involved in local politics. Visit http://www.democracyforma.org/Meetup for more information about meetups.

If you'd like to help out, email Shai Sachs (shaisachs@gmail.com).

MassEquality says this is a golden opportunity to enlist allies in the effort to preserve equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. Please join us for a fun day in the sun talking with people who are sympathetic to the cause.

Shifts begin at 11 and 2

Sign up by visiting this site: www.massequality.org/volunteer.php

Thank you very much for helping preserve equal marriage rights in Massachusetts.

Sincerely,
Amy Mello, Field Coordinator, AmyMello@MassEquality.org

2. Equal Marriage at Town Meetings
**********************************

Protect Equal Marriage Rights at Your Annual Town Meeting!

This spring, the place to see and be seen is at your Annual Town Meeting. With only a few months until the next Constitutional Convention, Annual Town Meetings present an outstanding opportunity to talk to local citizens about equal marriage rights and collect postcards to be distributed to legislators.

Town Meetings attract active citizens and elected officials. They are a great place to collect signatures of people who matter to legislators—and maybe even sign up a few more volunteers. Perfect for the first-time activist, this is a fun way to make a difference in your community, volunteering along-side some of your friends and neighbors.

Visit this site to sign up today:
http://www.massequality.org/town_meeting.php

Before your Town meeting, we will also notify you of other volunteers who will be working with you that day. In addition, one or more conference calls will be available before your scheduled town meeting, to provide additional support and training.

For more information or questions, contact Amy Mello at 617-878-2307 or email AmyMello@MassEquality.org

MassEquality.org is a coalition of local and national organizations defending equal marriage rights for same-sex couples in Massachusetts. We are working to protect the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial court's decision on marriage equality and to defeat any discriminatory amendment to the Massachusetts state constitution.

3. Petitions at Democratic State Convention
**********************************

PDA (the Progressive Democrats of America) are planning to introduce three platform amendments at the Democratic State Convention on May 13-14. We are looking for delegates to sign the petitions and for non-delegates to help gather signatures. The petitions are about IRV (Instant Runoff Voting), opposing the Iraq War (sponsored by United for Justice with Peace), and single-payer health care (sponsored by MassCare).

The next planning session is via teleconference, on Thursday, April 28, at 9:00 P.M., a time which for many makes it a free long distance call. The call-in number is 605-990-0200. The access code is 277593. Discussion group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pdama/ and primers about the convention are at http://www.DemocraticStateCommittee.com
