Dear Constituent,

I am writing to invite you to a town hall meeting on President Bush's wiretapping program. The meeting will be on Saturday, March 4, at 2:30 pm, at Wayland High School in Room L-1.

As you know, President Bush has admitted that he authorized the National Security Agency (NSA) to spy on Americans by conducting wiretaps and intercepting phone calls and emails without warrants.

Although the Bush Administration claims that only members of al Qaeda, individuals affiliated with al Qaeda, or persons working in support of al Qaeda are monitored, news reports suggest otherwise. Indeed, the New York Times reported that warantless wiretapping "has captured what are purely domestic communications." Furthermore, it is believed that thousands of ordinary people may have been spied on through this program.

Nothing is more important than keeping America secure -- and solid intelligence is an important part in fighting the war on terror. However, any intelligence gathering must be done within the rule of law.

I would like to know what you think about this important issue, and hope you will be able to attend on the 4th. For more information or to RSVP, please call my district office at 978-459-0101.

Sincerely,

Marty Meehan
