New health care bill penalizes smokers

BOSTON The new Massachusetts health care bill may penalize smokers.

One provision of the bill, signed April 12-th, allows private insurers
to charge smokers higher premiums than nonsmokers.

Details of the law will take months to work out but the goal is clear.

The Boston Globe reports Senator Richard Moore, co-chairman of the health
care committee, says the state wants to discourage habits that are unhealthy
and (quote) "add to the cost of health care."

1. That's such bull shit

It's not cool to single out smokers. Where will something like this end, with people who are over weight, people who drink or for people who are sexually active and not in a monogamous relationship?
