Saturday is a "tax holiday"
Purchases under $2500 (made on Saturday) will be exempt from sales tax. If you were planning such a purchase, Saturday is the day to do it!

2. Love the quote in today's Globe ...
A man said

"A large purchase is not an impulse item Ñ one must contemplate the need, plan for the purchase, save for the purchase Ñ and then drive to New Hampshire to buy it."

5. did anyone save any money?
I went shopping for my wife's and my dad's birthdays today. I spent around $100, so I saved about $5. Thanks, Mittens!

That almost makes up for the thousands of extra dollars I've had to give UMass over the past few years, due to the diminishing state support for higher ed.

I will cherish my five bucks. :eyes:

6. we need a double tax day
the idea would be to have a day that would try to discourage the rampant materialism in our society ...

7. They didn't publicize this much
I didn't hear about it till Saturday -- when I was in NY, so it didn't do me any good. I would have bought our new dishwasher. Damn!

8. I know what you mean
Very few of my friends heard about it. I'm not sure how the state would have publicized this more, but I would have expected businesses to make a big deal of it in their advertising.

Lots of stores had window signs advertising it on Saturday, but there wasn't anything like that ahead of time.

10. New york no tax days
I heard an ad today on 107.9 for a period of tax-free days in New York. That seems like a better way to do it!
