Peters, Levin have required vision, experience

With the heady challenges facing our leaders, it is more important than ever that both sides of the Congressional chambers be filled with individuals who are clear-thinking, experienced and able to craft affective solutions to the problems facing our nation.

In District 9, which includes Royal Oak, Berkley, Clawson, and Troy and has proven to be one of the most contested Congressional districts this election season, Democrat Gary Peters is our choice.

We appreciate Republican Joe Knollenberg's eight terms of service to the district. However, we think Knollenberg has lost touch with the changing demographic of the area and the mounting problems facing our region and nation. Peters has put forth aggressive and effective plans in key areas, including job creation, health care and tax incentives while Knollenberg represents business as usual.

Peters, while bringing a refreshing approach to the job, is hardly a neophyte. Prior to serving as state lottery commissioner, he held myriad of offices at the state and local level and is a retired military officer. His business and financial background is impressive and will serve the district and our state well.

In District 12, which includes the south end of Royal Oak, Royal Oak Township, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Oak Park, Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge, Democrat Sander Levin of Royal Oak is the clear choice to return to Washington, D.C. Having served since 1992, Levin has attained a prominent position in Congress, serving on the House Ways and Means committee and chairing the Trade subcommittee.
