How is Mackinac Island in September?

We usually like to visit places in the off season, but sometimes many places curtail operations once the kids are back at school.

Just like it is every other month of the year!:+ Just kidding! If you're asking about the weather at that time of the year in Northern Michigan. It can range from being moderately warm to being cold and windy! It's Michigan We who have lived here couldn't tell you from one second to the next. The weather changes so quickly and often.

We would love to travel someplace this summer and was thinking of Mackinac Island as means of helping Michigan...

And it quiets down substantially once school starts (which is after Labor Day in Michigan, mandated by law). Accommodations are less expensive and the crowds are way down. If you go toward the middle or end of the month the trees may have begun to turn too.

I highly recommend it.

We have always wanted to visit there and now that the TV is full of ads to visit Michigan, we thought - why not?

Looking for a boat ride to the land of fudge & t-shirts? You can spend a few hours & see it all.

If you are interested in history, lakeside bike-rides to nowhere, breath-taking vistas and turn of the (19th) century charm, plan on staying till the snow flies in November. (My husband would insist I mention of the large number of raw oysters available, at least 5 bars/restaurants had them on the menu last time we were there.) Seriously, go early in September, take an extra pair of walking shoes and hiking boots, and an extra week.

definitely stay on the island. We used to go every year in the spring, and falling asleep at night listening to the clip-clop of the horses' hooves was wonderful. It is more expensive than staying off the island and doing a day trip or two, but you miss the real uniqueness of the island. My favorite times there were after the last boat of the day departed for the mainland!

It's not in the main strip of town, but close enough that it's an easy walk. This was quite a few years ago, but it looks like the rating is still up there.
The Grand Hotel is cool, though I've never stayed there (too pricey). I checked a few dates in Sept, and it seems they're pretty booked up already, anyway.

This was another place we stayed once. It was very nice, but not close to town. They do offer carriages to town on a regular schedule, or it's a neat bike ride in (though don't recommend the night ride like we did once. It's downhill, and dark, and we almost wiped out several times, though we laughed all the way, in the blissful ignorance of youth. lol)

As far as weather, Sept. is usually quite nice in Michigan, though like someone posted it can vary, but this is true even in the height of summer. It's just the way Michigan weather is.
