Recall Timeline:

1. We cannot submit recall language to the Secretary of State until Snyder has served 6 months. That means Friday, July 1, 2011.

2. Decide upon the language to be used on the recall petition and the 200 word synopsis of that language that would actually appear on the ballot.

3. The proposed language must be submitted for a clarity hearing by the County Election Commission in the county were Snyder resides.

4. Once the language has been approved and the 6 months provision has been met (and only then) we can start collecting signatures.

5. The law allows 90 days to collect signatures, but if we want to be on the November ballot all petitions must be filed in one big batch with the Secretary of State no later than August 5, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. – so we need to have all completed petition sheets at headquarters before that time.

6. The campaign begins in earnest - but assume we will already be under assault by that time.

7. Election day - we MUST have a highly organized and very effective effort to get EVERY VOTER to the polls.

8. According the Michigan's constitution, if the governor is removed from office by the recall, the order of succession kicks in - the Lt. Governor becomes Governor for the rest of the original term. That does not apply to the Senators and Representatives. Those replacements are handled differently.

NOTE: On election day - we MUST have a highly organized and very effective effort to get EVERY VOTER to the polls. This includes those we think will vote for the recall AND even those we think may vote against it. We win if there are more people at the polls. A low turnout probably means we lose. This also means that every person who feels strongly about the recall should schedule vacation time for November 7th and 8th. We will need LOTS of boots on the ground to overcome the financial disadvantage we will face on the air

1. Wow
Six months compared to a ten minute walk to the polls. The math still doesn't add up for me. The value of the vote has been felt here in Michigan in a way that has made people see the real importance of being a voter. I just hope that unity will make this fight a fight that can be won. If you really want to make them hurt attack all sides. start financially. TOMBStone them suckers. Start removing your money from their precious entities and commerce with yourselves. You should not Commerce with the Chamber of Commerce. Their only goal is to protect themselves. that is why they have lobbyist. That is why we have Citizens United. That is why we have the less regulations meme. The agenda for Governor Snyder should have been Governor Bernero.

2. Something to think about..
Snyder's Lt. Governor is likely worse than Snyder.. Think My favorite route would be to look at a right wing venerable state legislator and pick of the worst.. If there are any.? Being some backwater areas of Michigan ( Ottawa Cnty as an example.) are truly backwater. And backwater areas is where the worst of the Neanderthals come from .

3. Recall Calley too?
It sounds like we are totally screwed to me. Even if we are successful recalling Snyder, Calley is as bad or worse than Snyder.

It seems to me that the effort to recall Snyder would feel good, but it won't accomplish the goal of helping the state recover and avoid the draconian budget and financial martial law that the EFM legislation could impose on cities and school districts.

Let's think this through. I dislike Snyder as much as the next person, but if we end up with Calley as governor, will we be better off?

5. Snyder cannot get anything through without legislative support.
Personally, I think a better course of action would be to target the Repug legislators that are consistently introducing, cosigning, and voting in favor of these bills that are detrimental to the people of Michigan. Put the pressure on them to knock off the attack and resist this repressive agenda.

6. I just heard that Calley does not become governor for the rest of the term
This is a meme that Ruth Johnson is spreading. Under recall rules, there is a special election. If Snyder were to be impeached rather than recalled, or if he were to leave office for any other reason, then Calley would become governor. I was very glad to find this out.

10. Good to know.
I thought that Calley would step in. Thanks for clarifying! I know a lot of people assume this as well, so it's really good to know the facts. TY and....

7. How long do we expect #3 to take?
Since we would prefer to have all the signatures in by August 5th. A delay could hurt us. That is a lot of signatures to collect in one month as it is.

8. Found the answer:
Senate bill 153 is the basis for the recall:
http://www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/2011-2012/billintroduced/Senate/pdf/2011-SIB-0153.pdf

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/2011-2012/billintroduced/Senate/pdf/2011-SIB-0153.pdf

Clarity Hearing: The First Step

• The reasons for the recall developed by the recall petition sponsor must be submitted for a clarity determination before the recall petition is placed in circulation. The clarity determination is rendered by the County Election Commission established in the county where the officer resides. The County Clerk, County Treasurer and Chief Judge of Probate serve on the County Election Commission.

• The recall sponsor submits the reasons to the county clerk. The individual submitting the recall language must be registered to vote in the electoral district represented by the officer.

• Each reason for the recall must be based upon the officer’s conduct during his or her current term in office.

• Within 24 hours after the submission of recall language for a clarity determination, the County Election Commission must notify the officer of 1) the filing of the petition language and the date of the filing 2) the contents of the petition language and 3) the time, date and place of the clarity hearing. Official notice of the time, date and place of the clarity hearing is also sent to the filer of the language.

The County Election Commission is required to meet sometime between the 10th and 20th day after the filing of the recall language to conduct the hearing.

• When the required hearing is held, the function of the County Election Commission is to determine “whether each reason for the recall stated in the petition is of sufficient clarity to enable the officer whose recall is sought and the electors to identify the course of conduct that is the basis for the recall.” The County Election Commission does not have the authority to rule on the reasons for recall.

Failure of the County Election Commission to conduct the required clarity hearing by the 20th day after the submission of recall language constitutes a determination that the language is of sufficient clarity.

• The determination rendered by the County Election Commission may be appealed by the officer or the sponsor of the recall to the Circuit Court in the county. The appeal must be filed within 10 days after the County Election Commission’s determination.

• Recall language approved for clarity by the County Election Commission or the Circuit Court (if appealed) is valid for 180 days after the final date of approval. (Note: While the approved recall language is valid for 180 days, all signatures on the petition must be collected within a 90 day “window” period as explained below.)
