Returning to the airwaves ... Tony Trupiano!

I first got involved with this site back in 2006, right after being laid off from the local newspaper. It was the year that Jennifer Granholm beat Amway Guy in a landslide and the Munith Turkey Lady came within an eyelash of beating Tim Walberg. In Thad McCotter's district, a small core of MichLibbers had rallied around their candidate as the best one in years ... a radio show host named Tony Trupiano.

Well, I'm happy to report that come early May, Trupiano will do what built him a following in the first place ... return to the airwaves to make trouble. First Shift with Tony Trupiano will broadcast from 6-9 a.m. at 1310 A.M. The normal covering range will southeast Detroit, but with the powers of the Internet (website currently under construction), you'll be able to live stream it or download podcasts immediately after the show.

The show will blend together news, commentary, and activism. Trupiano said in a brief phone interview less than an hour ago that although they'll broadcast from WDTW's studio, they'll also to take the show on the road, from going to picket lines to meetings ... "wherever we need to go." The goal, he said, "is to make news, not report it."

His return to the air was prompted by something very basic. "The 2010 elections that took away the rights of union members and progressive Democrats in one fell swoop," he said.
