Miller says she won't run for Senate against Stabenow
January 11, 2005, 1:49 PM

DETROIT (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Candice Miller said Tuesday that she won't run for the U.S. Senate in 2006 against Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

"Our party is blessed with many strong candidates who have an outstanding chance of taking back this Senate seat," Miller said in a news release. "It is important to make this decision early so other candidates can prepare for the campaign ahead."

Miller, R-Mich., was considered one of the GOP's best hopes for beating Stabenow, who first was elected in 2000. Last Friday, Miller's spokesman confirmed that President Bush had asked Miller to consider running.

Miller said she was gratified by that encouragement but made her decision after talking to family and supporters. She said she will fully support the GOP candidate in next year's race.

1. Very Interesting
I think it's a sign that Debbie is a shoe-in.

Or Candice could be a class act...

3. I think Candice's upcoming indictment would prove to be an embarassment
to the party, so she decided not to run for the Senate.

I have heard this also.
I wonder who the source of this talk might be. Maybe they would run her just to kill off her chances for future political office in Mich. Or, I just thought of this, she could fully fund her own race leaving the money to go to State House / State Senate candidates who will really need the party money to hold onto their majorities.

I think you will see a lot of Congressmen on both sides of the fence getting really interested in the legislative races with 2010 only 2 cycles away.

9. That is an interesting thought
One person I spoke to about BDV running said she did not have a chance to win given that she is not known outside of W. Mich.

6. Thanks for the laugh Candi!
"Our party is blessed with many strong candidates who have an outstanding chance of taking back this Senate seat,"

Yeah, maybe they could get that lemming "Rocky" that they put up against Levin again. hahahahaha!!!!!

I'd like tohear one name they think has "an outstanding chance" to win this seat. Of course you know the smears will be vicious and plentiful but that still doesn't mean they have a candidate.

15. He will Wait.
Most people think Levin in done in 2008. Rogers (and others like Camp and Miller) will wait for the open seat and build money and power in the House. The House is not a bad place to be for them since they will never have real opposition in their districts, it would be very stupid to make a big move when the open seat is just two years away.

16. The runner will be.........
Look for a termed out State Senator or State House member to run against Stabenow. It would get them a statewide name and they have no political future anyway with the term limits. It might be a joke, but we all remember "Rocky" don't we. He is and always will be a bigger name because of his Senate race.

Also, whoever runs will put up ok numbers against Stabenow, its not like running against Levin when he wins just about every county. A so-so candidate should be able to take 42-47% of the vote if they raise even a million or two.
