Governor Granholm cleaned up in the third and final debate last night. She presented detailed plans and a clear vision of a vibrant Michigan future for all our citizens.
Dick DeVos refused to answer questions directly. He skirted questions on funding for higher education, health care coverage, K-12 education and the automotive industry. He is trying to hide his true self from Michigan.
DeVos’ tax schemes are dangerous for Michigan. He wants to eliminate $3 billion in corporate taxes that provide essential funding used to protect our people, including child protective services and police and fire forces, as well as for schools and health care.
Time and again DeVos has helped his own personal finances at the expense of Michigan citizens. From eliminating Michigan jobs, to lobbying for unfair trade agreements and a special “middle of the night” tax break for Amway, to incorporating businesses in Bermuda to avoid paying taxes, Dick DeVos helps himself and hurts the rest of us.

Women Leaders Praise Granholm Position on Choice
Women leaders from around the state met with Governor Jennifer M. Granholm to share their support for the Governor’s mainstream position on choice. “With a conservative majority on the Supreme Court bench, a woman’s right to choose could be at risk,” said Helen Milliken, wife of former Michigan governor William Milliken. “I commend the Governor for her courage and determination. Governor Granholm may well be our last line of defense if Roe v. Wade is overturned.” … The women who attended the meeting said they were shocked to hear recent comments Dick DeVos made in the debates and on a radio show confirming his extreme position on choice. On a syndicated Catholic radio program, Dick DeVos made it clear that he would be “thrilled” if Roe v. Wade was overturned. If Roe v. Wade were overturned, Michigan’s existing law would again be in effect, which would make the performing of an abortion a felony. Since Roe v. Wade made such laws unconstitutional in 1973, the Michigan law has not been enforced.

WILX: New Accusations Accompany Jobs Talk in Third Debate
The third and final debate focused, once again, on the economy. The two were asked to name one thing to improve it. "I would adopt our 21st-Century Jobs Fund," Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) said. "It will create tens of thousands of jobs." Granholm says the plan is working by funneling state funds toward growing businesses in growing sectors… Both candidates have tied a better economy to better education. The governor said higher education would be hurt by her opponent's plan to cut business taxes… Earlier in the debate, the governor railed against attempts to connect her to, among other things, the death of Ricky Holland "Let's keep the names of deceased children out of it," Granholm said. And on a second offensive, the governor provoked a quick response from her opponent. "When he was the CEO of Amway, he incoporated subsidiaries in Bermuda," she said.
