Sen Dayton getting calls from people in NO begging for help
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 09:50 AM by preciousdove
I just called to ask Coleman (no live person, just voicemail), Dayton and McCollum to get water into NO.

Gal at Dayton's office in tears said she has had calls from people IN New Orleans begging for help and that the Senator is trying (not said "but the administration is in charge.")

On CNN the Pentagon spokesman said that they have "no specific local requests for help" so the "troops on the ground are unable to act". Meaning they don't have the names and addresses of those they need to evacuate or they haven't filled out the form. I am assuming that is everyone outside the dome. Head of FEMA was just rambling. But they can get 400 buses into the Dome but they can't send water? Anybody got any ideas on how to force them to act?

on edit: hate it when my eyes go wonky

1. McCollumn is in Africa and Coleman is in Latin America
I had called them, and Dayton, to encourage them to go to Washington and deal with the crisis since * isn't. (Understatement).

McCollum's aide said Congress has been called back to DC.

2. Congress is expected to vote $10 billion in aid this weekend
Let's hope they don't give Halliburton the contract for getting the aid distributed.

3. I'm guessing that's exactly who will get the contract.
Naturally, it will be an open-ended no-bid contract. Expect an insurance company bailout to follow. The people that need help will get squat but as long as the corporations are happy, that's all that really matters.

Oh, and the people hardest hit by this are poor and/or black so they don't really count. If they had any sense, they would have had this storm during an election year. It's their fault for waiting until months after the election to have their storm. :sarcasm:
