1. For those of us who don't know Rybak from a hole in the ground...?
Is he/she/it a Democrat?

3. So is the other guy, actually. They ran without party affiliation.
But Ryback is the more progressive one.

4. And the challenger always seemed to be motivated by personal
animosity toward Rybak than by any lofty ideas.

5. McLaughlin lost me when his campaign handed out waffle shaped
fliers against Rybak at the city DFL convention. Too soon after the waffle as a symbol was used against Kerry by Bush.

6. Didn't McLaughlin run on a promise to repeal the smoking ban?

7. I don't know McLaughlin from a hole in the ground
but I know he was a huge proponent for the new Twins stadium and that was enough for me. Rybak botched the stadium issue by giving it a half-hearted approval rather than taking a firm stand against it, a decision that probably cost him the DFL endorsement. However, anyone that seeks DFL endorsement like McLaughlin did AND is a huge proponent of a new stadium is, in my view, nothing but a Republican disguising himself as a Dem to get elected. As a St. Paul resident, I've seen more than my share of those types of candidates and the warning bells go off immediately.

Stadium issue aside, Rybak has always taken progressive stances and he deserves a lot of credit for that. I remember seeing a news clip of him at the send-off of the Anti-war Committee's buses on their trip to DC prior to the war. Since public sentiment at that time was something like 70% in favor of the war, I thought it took guts for him to take a stand for what he believed in and show up at 6:00 AM to thank the people that were taking time out of their lives to go to DC and protest the run-up to an unjust war. He got big points in my book for that and a number of other things he's done. I'm a big fan of Rybak even though I don't agree with him on the stadium issue. The Twin Cities did themselves proud tonight!

8. Indeed we did.
I too am a big fan of R.T. and I certainly hope Chris Coleman can measure up!
