Minnesota's ties to corruption
This morning Senator John McCain, Republican from Arizona, told Tim Russert that Washington has "become very corrupt."

Senator Mark Dayton said the same thing last week in the St. Cloud Times:

WASHINGTON — Sen. Mark Dayton may shun the political limelight, but he isn't shy when it comes to expressing his opinion of Capitol Hill.

"I said before I came here that I thought Washington was a cesspool, and I still do," he said during a recent interview.

This past week two Minnesota Congressmen were caught dipping their toes into that cesspool:

WASHINGTON - Minnesota Reps. John Kline and Mark Kennedy will donate as much as $14,000 in campaign funds to charity to offset funds they received from California Congressman Randy (Duke) Cunningham, their aides said Thursday.

Cunningham pleaded guilty this week to taking $2.4 million in bribes.

2. Not enough!
If John Kline and Mark Kennedy won their seats with money from a "poisoned well", simply giving $14,000 to a Charity of their Choice is NOT fair restitution. Their campaign and victory is now TAINTED by corruption.

I think John Kline and Mark Kennedy should STEP DOWN out of simple SHAME for themselves, their Party, and their now questionable election.!!

3. I hope Dayton uses his remaining time wisely
Glad to see this story in the St. Cloud paper but why isn't he speaking up more? He doesn't have any elections to worry about.

Because he's concerned about the "cesspool" he should be busy trying to expose it through interviews and legislation. Being a senator gives him power and resources and access that 300 million of us average Americans don't have.

It seems like he's resentful and has given up.
