Close Gitmo Rally Fri. 1/11 noon-1pm Hennepin/Lagoon
Friday Rally from 12 noon to 1 pm at Hennepin and Lagoon, Minneapolis

(I'm taking 2 hours off work to attend this event) (I'll be in the orange jumpsuit and black hood)

January 11 marks a sad anniversary: six years since the arrival of the first prisoners at the Guantánamo Bay, Cuba detention center. The treatment of the detainees there is a betrayal of American values and has shamed our country internationally. Our country has held detainees, some for all six years, without granting even the most fundamental legal rights. Most are being held without any charge, sometimes even after intelligence officials have determined they are not terrorists. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice both favor shutting down Guantánamo, as does Secretary Rice’s predecessor, Colin Powell.

Nationwide, the American Civil Liberties Union has set * January 11 as a day of protest *, declaring that it’s long past time that we end this nightmarish treatment and close down Guantánamo.

We’ll be wearing orange to show our outrage and we also have large “Close Guantanamo” banners suitable for pedestrian overpass display to follow the rally at aprox. 1:30 pm on the 40th Street pedestrian overpass over 35W in Minneapolis .

Please come to both the rally and/or the overpass to help us hold banners in your warmest orange colored clothing! *** Wear your orange jumpsuits if you have them *

Remember. John Kline was one of 19 cosponsors of the MIlitary Commissions Act which allows to detain people with out telling them why, telling their family that they are being held.. and to deny them trial. A great sign would be.

1st take this test.. no peeking.. get a piece of paper and answer these questions before you look at fact sheet.

how many detainees?

age of youngest ?

age of oldest ? (shocked me more than the youngest)

# of completed trials?

# of detainee's captured by US troops ?

Percentage of determined not to have committeed any hostile acts against US or it's allies ?

How many have died at Guantanamo ?

Age when captured of one who has died ?

As of Dec 2007, how many are still in Guantanamo?

2. Hi, I walked through your demonstration on Hennepin
applauding and giving you the thumbs up.

I would have stayed, but I had just gotten a phone call announcing a family emergency, so I had to catch a bus home.

But :yourock:
