If you're a Rolling Stones fan
I highly recommend Scorsese's documentary "Shine a Light". My friend and I saw it at the Imax theater at the Minnesota Zoo yesterday. It is mostly concert footage and we thought it was the next best thing to a live Stones concert. (I also recommend you see it at the Imax). The concert was the benefit concert they did in New York for Clinton's 60th birthday... If you see it (or have seen it) did you notice Clinton's eyes when he introduced the band? Do you suppose he'd just been standing too close to Keith Richarchs before the concert?

Anyway, the only bad part was that the entire audience sat in their seats like lumps. - I kept bouncing around in my seat and would occasional see some other audience member start to do the same - then stop with a very self conscious look at their neighbors. I began to think Garrison Keillor could do a Lake Woebegone segment on audience behavior at this movie.

1. I assume that one important element of a live Stones concert is missing:
...the thick blue haze of pot smoke. Maybe that's what that bunch of Lake Wobegone Norwegians really needed.

2. Sadly yes.
We did notice that. We were at one Stones concert (probably in the 90s) at the Dome and the familiar blue haze hung in the air and herbal refreshments were being passed up and down the rows when the guy sitting on the other side of the person next to me lit up a Marlboro and the usher was was right on him screaming "There is no smoking in the Dome!" The usher was some sweet thing young enough to be the daughter of most everyone in the area. I suppose she'd grown up on DARE programs that make tobacco sound more dangerous than heroin.

Oh, and at the movie Sunday, we also noticed that the crowd was really older than the ones we used to see at Stones' concerts.

3. I think I was at that concert.
There was a LOT of reefer all around us. I was stoned for hours afterwards just from breathing the air.

Ahhh, the good ol' days...
