We need to be like Georgia: have a runoff if no one gets at least 50% of the votes
and while there, let's demand at least 60% of the votes to pass any Constitutional Amendment.

Here I am lamenting California, Arizona and Florida that passed ban on gay marriage with a simple majority, and we did the same, with the tax one.

1. Instant run off voting
would be even better.

5. From what I've read, it can be very confusing
As it is many don't realize that for their votes to be counted they have to completely fill those bubbles. A few days ago the strib had examples of what it would mean to decipher the voters' intent, when it showed how some people circle the name, or put an X in the bubble, etc.

8. Voter Confusion
I worked here in NM for several years, including last week and can tell you that I am of the opinion that a good 10% of the voters spoil their own ballots to the point that not every one they thought they voted for got their vote. And New Mexico and Minnesota use the same machines to count the ballots.

2. At least the tax amendment doesn't take any rights away from individuals
I think we need to amend the Constituiton to say that the rights of any group will not be put to a popular vote. And I would be happy to pass that with a simple majority.

4. And to think there were those that used to fret we'd be a "cold Omaha"
better that than a cold Georgia.

6. I think that when a candidate gets at least 50% of the votes
we, and s/he, know that there is a mandate there.

Would Jesse Ventura be the governor had we had a runoff rule?

7. I agree about IRV
we do need that (or at least a run off election) - I was responding to the fun about being "like Georgia" - in most areas, that would not be a good thing.
